Let's Talk: Possums to Picnics at Mussel Pool

Enjoy an evening of lively discussion exploring the two sides of Mussel Pool; the social history of Lew Whiteman's developments and the natural ecology of this beautiful wetland.

Museum Curator of Revolutions Museum, Jessica Davies will discuss Lew Whiteman's development of the picnic ground and swimming hole in the 1960s. She will explore the "parkitecture" he had built and how these are being conserved for future generations, as well as how memories of Mussel Pool, captured through photographs and oral histories, have helped inform the latest Cabinet of Curiosities.

Environment and Conservation Team Leader, Dr Chris Rafferty and Senior Environmental Officer, Kelly Morley will speak about the complex ecology of Mussel Pool. You will find out what projects the Environment team are working on in this area, as well as what seasonal changes they've observed and the challenges they face in managing this precious water source.

While you are here, browse our latest exhibit Memories of Mussel Pool in the Cabinet of Curiosities and share your stories too! The event starts at 5pm but we encourage you to arrive anytime from 4pm.
